Chef and Food driven Fundraisers for The Alzheimer's Association

Top Bay Area chefs to unite at Camino for Paula Wolfert/ Alzheimer’s Association Fundraiser June 26, 2014

Inside Scoop SF Gate

On Thursday, June 26, seven of the Bay Area’s finest chefs will cook together to honor Wolfert, and to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

It’s an impressive cast:

  • David Kinch, Manresa
  • Mourad Lahlou, Aziza
  • Russell Moore, Camino
  • Daniel Patterson, Coi
  • Cal Peternell, Chez Panisse
  • Gayle Pirie, Foreign Cinema
  • Amaryll Schwertner, Boulettes Larder

The dinner will take place at Camino, and several weeks ago, Moore spoke to Scoop about the event.

“The instructions were to cook something inspired by Paula and by Paula’s books,” says Moore, adding with a laugh: “… Though she’s never satisfied with people cooking from her books. We all adore her, and I’ve read all of her books.”

Tickets start at $350 per person; that price includes dinner, beverages, tax, gratuity and a raffle ticket. In addition to a silent auction and raffle, there is also a VIP Donor ticket option ($1,500), which includes a few more bells and whistles.Tickets — and more information on the event — are available here.

If you can’t make the dinner but would like to make a donation, that is also an option.

Since all the participating chefs have different styles, Moore expects the evening to be somewhat of  “an old school, new school combination dinner.”

The Story Behind Mediterranean Feast Fundraisers

Susan Park and Farid Zadi first met Paula Wolfert about eight years ago on a food forum called eGullet. If you’re familiar with Paula’s cookbook career, you know that her most popular books were on North African and French cookery.

When Farid, a French born Algerian Berber, started posting about Algerian/North African and French cuisines, Paula seemed to have a response for almost every single thing he had to say. To this day he jokes that she was stalking him. Paula became Farid’s champion and sang his praises to her food writer friends.
